Curriculum
Montessori learning materials are intensely fascinating and absorbing to young children and stimulate them into logical thought and discovery. When engaged in well-structured tasks, children experience a deep inner satisfaction. This leaves them with an overall positive attitude toward everything connected with learning. Children's success in school is directly tied to the degree to which they believe they are capable and independent. This philosophy is carried through from preschool and into early elementary. The Montessori classroom is simultaneously structured and flexible. Each child establishes his or her own pace and may choose the work that seems most intriguing. The Montessori teacher serves to guide the child to new challenges and helps him or her master each new skill rather than dictating precisely what will be learned and when. "Intelligence is the ability to compare, reason and make differentiations and judgments in a quick and orderly manner." —Maria Montessori |
